The long-awaited Melbourne Metro Tunnel is part of Victoria’s Big Build and Spacer Company is a proud supplier to this massive project.
The Metro Tunnel will bring more trains to many Melbourne suburbs, thereby reducing travel time for commuters. By untangling the City Loop, more trains can run more often across Melbourne. This is such a vital project for this busy, growing city.
Spacer Company had the task of custom-designing spacers to run along some of the tunnel crosses. The spacers are designs and manufactured in our Brisbane factory then quickly couriered down to Melbourne.
The Melbourne Metro Tunnel is planned to open in 2025, a year ahead of schedule. It will provide and end-to-end rail line from Sunbury in the west to Cranbourne/Pakenham in the south-east, with high-capacity trains and five new underground stations.
This major upgrade will enable more than a half a million additional passengers per week to travel across Melbourne’s train network.
The team at Spacer Company is excited to play a part in a project that will make life easier for commuters, reduce the load on suburban and city streets and contribute to less vehicle pollution. That’s a win for everyone!
