The Adelaide Aqua Desalination Plant Project in Lonsdale is part of the South Australian Government’s strategy to ensure a secure water supply for the state. South Australia is the driest state in the driest inhabited continent as has experienced severe water shortages during periods of drought.

Formerly known as the Port Stanvac Desalination Plant, The Adelaide Desalination Plant uses the process of reverse osmosis to remove salt from (or desalinate) seawater. The plant has the capacity to supply the city of Adelaide with up to 50% of its domestic drinking water needs.

The Adelaide Desalination Plant was officially opened in 2013 within the original budget of $1.83 billion and Spacer Company was proud to supply spacers to this vitally important project.

The spacers were custom designed and built at our Brisbane factory with the clien’ts own CAD data and sent to our in-house CNC machine to cut out the unquie design.

The Adelaide Desalination Project is the largest infrastructure project the State of South Australia has funded, owns, and has completed successfully.

Since opening, the plant has been operating at 10% capacity to keep it functioning. In 2017, it produced 2% of the state’s water supply. Spacer Company is excited to have played a part in helping the people of Adelaide ensure a safe and constant water supply.
